OWNERS of leasehold properties in Negri Sembilan whose titles are close to expiry will be given priority in converting them to freehold.
Mentri Besar Aminuddin Harun said his administration had been told by the Federal authorities that such properties could be converted to freehold status based on provisions in the National Land Code.
Aminuddin said he was told by Land and Mines director-general at a recent meeting that the state government would only need to submit an application to the Federal Government for approval.
“My administration has also decided that an individual who has more than one leasehold property can only apply to convert one to freehold status.
“His other properties will remain leasehold,”
he said when met after opening a Xiang Qi (Chinese chess) tournament at SM Agama Haji Mohd Said in Seremban.
The state Pakatan Harapan had prior to the May 9 general elections pledged to convert leasehold properties to freehold if elected to power.
Aminuddin said he was glad that the pledge which was part of the election manifesto would soon come to fruition.
