SEREMBAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak envisions Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) Seremban Sentral as affordable city living for middle-income earners.
Najib said the project would stimulate economic growth and turn Seremban into a modern city.
The project will offer 5,000 apartment units — ranging from 500 to 1,250 sq ft per unit — within the high-rise blocks of the RM2.5 billion Seremban Sentral, set to be an integrated hub for transport, commercial and retail activities.
Buyers will receive at least 20 per cent discount per unit.
Residents will have access to rail, light rail transit (LRT) and bus services.
Adjacent to the homes will be commercial offices, a retail mall, health and medical facilities, an education campus, parks and gardens, and a hotel.
Najib, who launched the PR1MA housing project along with Seremban Sentral yesterday, said work on both projects was expected to start this year.
Seremban Sentral will be built on the KTMB Seremban station, with a total land area of 30ha.
“We realise that the price of housing in the Klang Valley, especially in Kuala Lumpur, is too expensive for middle-income earners and since the National Transformation Policy is inclusive of all Malaysians, we decided to introduce PR1MA for this group who are not eligible for the low-cost houses or expensive homes,” Najib said at the launch.
It is estimated that more than 90,000 Seremban residents commute on a daily basis to the Klang Valley via the KTM Komuter service and major highways, such as Lekas and PLUS.
Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said PR1MA and Seremban Sentral were proof that Barisan Nasional knows how to transform the economy to benefit the people and still look after their social and community needs.
In Port Dickson later, Najib launched the “Programme to Change the Destiny of Malaysian Indian Children”.
“Under this programme, we are allocating 1,600 places for Indian students with at least three credits in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia to undertake pre-diploma courses at 20 polytechnics in the country.”
On another note, Najib said 2,000 pairs of spectacles would be handed to people here by 1Malaysia Bhd.
“The recipients can see clearly and will know who to vote for in the next general election,” he said.
